Make the science of reading fun with this engaging, multi-sensory phonics activity that helps students with orthographic mapping!

Research indicates that connecting phonemes (sounds) to graphemes (letters) supports students with orthographic mapping.

How to use this board: 

  1. Students will say the name of the object pictured.
  2. They will then tap out the sounds they hear in the word, placing one metal chip for each sound.
  3. Then they will map those sounds to their grapheme (letters), writing those letters in the dry-erase section of the board. 
  4. Finally, they will zap the word using the magnetic wand to pick up the metal chips and blend all the sounds together. Then, they will say the word again. 

The board measures 8"x7" and is made of hardwood maple. This material includes a magnetic wand (in assorted colors) and 6 metal chips.
